3D Systems V-Flash — Technical data

The V-Flash was 3D Systems' attempt in 2008 to offer a resin printer for the desktop. It uses Film Transfer Imaging (FTI): a thin transparent film carries the resin, which is exposed from below layer by layer while the part grows upside down on a disposable build pad. The build volume is 228 × 171 × 203 mm, and according to the trade press the unit manages around 12.7 mm per hour in Z. Resin comes from a 1.8 kg disposable cartridge that also contains the wear parts. At 66 × 69 × 79 cm and around 66 kg, the V-Flash fits into an office. The same process appears in the later ProJet 1000 and 1500.

Used, the V-Flash is of more interest for teaching, display or collections than for production, as it depends entirely on 3D Systems cartridges and build pads. Before buying, clarify whether cartridges are still available and how old any supplied stock is, since resin ages even unopened. Check the imaging unit, film mechanism, controls and software. Spare parts and service are now practically only available through specialists.
