3D Systems SLA 5000 — Technical data

The SLA 5000 is a large-format 3D Systems stereolithography machine for prototypes, master patterns and casting patterns up to 508 × 508 × 584 mm. A frequency-tripled Nd:YVO₄ laser delivers 216 mW at the vat; the beam measures 0.20 to 0.30 mm and draws at up to 5 m/s. The Zephyr recoater allows layers from 0.05 mm, with 0.10 mm being typical. The exchangeable vat holds just over 250 litres, and parts may weigh up to 68 kg. Control runs on Buildstation under Windows NT. The machine is discontinued; the SLA 7000 offered a much stronger laser in a similar format.

With a process module of more than 1.3 t plus accessory kit, the SLA 5000 does not fit every shop: floor load, access and a room at 20–26 °C with little temperature fluctuation must be in place. When buying, laser hours (original warranty 5,000 h), the condition of optics, scanner and recoater, and the quantity and age of resin in the vat matter – the resin can be a considerable part of the value. Spare parts and lasers are now only available through specialists.
