3D Systems ProJet 5000 — Technical data
The ProJet 5000 is a large-format 3D Systems MultiJet printer whose manual dates from 2012. It deposits the UV-curable plastic VisiJet MX and wax as support material; up to four material modules per side with 2 kg bottles allow long runs without refilling. Two modes are available: HD for concept models and casting patterns, UHD for presentation models, fit checks and investment casting. According to third-party figures, the build volume is around 533 × 381 × 300 mm at 32 or 64 µm layers. Parts can be stacked and nested. The ProJet 5000 is discontinued.
Clarify the electrical supply before buying: 200–240 V single-phase at 15 A, in the USA also 115–127 V at 20 A. According to the manual, warm-up before the first job takes about four hours, and maintenance is due after one year of build time or 94 kg of consumed material. Print head, UV lamps and service history determine the value, as does the availability of VisiJet MX and S300. Melting out the wax requires a large oven such as the ProJet Finisher XL.
