3D Systems ProJet 4500 — Technical data

The ProJet 4500 is a full-colour 3D Systems printer using the ColorJet process (CJP). Unlike the ProJet x60 printers with VisiJet PXL composite powder, it processes a plastic powder, VisiJet C4 Spectrum. A binder solidifies the powder in 0.1 mm layers and colours it at the same time; the build volume is 203 × 254 × 203 mm. Parts are depowdered in the integrated cleaning station and then dipped in molten wax, for which 3D Systems names an oven such as the ProJet Finisher. Applications were colour presentation models, prototypes and teaching models. The ProJet 4500 is discontinued.

According to third-party figures, the unit weighs around 272 kg and measures about 1.6 × 0.8 × 1.5 m. When buying, print heads, powder handling and the cleanliness of the mechanics are decisive, as residual powder settles in guides and sensors. Whether VisiJet C4 Spectrum is still available must be clarified beforehand, since the printer is designed for this material. Post-processing requires compressed air, wax and an oven; spare parts and service are now scarce.
