3D Systems ProJet 160 — Technical data

The ProJet 160 is the entry model of the 3D Systems ProJet x60 series, which grew out of the ZPrinter line. In the ColorJet process (CJP) an HP11 print head binds VisiJet PXL Core composite powder in 0.1 mm layers; the printer works in monochrome. The build volume is 185 × 236 × 127 mm, printing two to four layers per minute at 300 × 450 dpi. Typical uses are concept and architectural models in schools, universities and design offices. Residual powder is recovered via an external Core Recycling Unit. The sister model ProJet 260C prints in colour. The ProJet 160 is discontinued.

At 166 kg and with a standard mains connection, the ProJet 160 is easy to install. With a used unit, check powder paths, spreader and print head carriage for contamination, as fine powder migrates into mechanics and bearings. According to the manual, vacuuming with the cover open reaches 86 dB, so a separate room makes sense. Whether VisiJet PXL Core and binder are still available should be clarified beforehand, as should the build preparation software.
